The United States Army Corps of Engineers Base Yard contracted Eco & Associates, Inc. to assess the site of the Temple School building for compliance with the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 (NHPA). The Temple School site has been a center of education for nearly 150 years.

The original school site was one of Southern California's first country schools. The school is located in one of the early agricultural areas of Los Angeles County. It is known as the Narrows, an area with fertile ground, plentiful gound water and a suitable climate for growing orchard fruits. The families who settled the Narrows were farmers and the school was provided for the benefit of their children.

Eco conducted an assessment of the structures and land that comprise the USACE Base Yard for compliance with the NHPA. Included in this assessment were archaeological and architectural inventories to check for isolated artifacts and historic, original features of the school and grounds.
